Hi Bruce.
I think you have forgotten points for the Wellington offshore.
My brother was 2nd overall so must have 50 points from my calculations.
What about P Collier who was 3rd?

It is very confusing. I have questioned this in the past, but Bruce is right.

Hi Bruce. Sorry about that. It is confusiong when we (I in Wgtn) think our November meeting is the last for the year and our Feb offshore is the beginning of a new series. So this means Wgtn has two in a row with the Feb being the last of the Offshore series. We also re-new our subs in January. Oh well, just go along to what regattas I can and enjoy the comaraderie and the day.
Cheers, JB

The Offshore series (points)runs 1 Jan to 31 Dec.

The Presidents Cup (PC) Points runs on the year After Nats up to and including the next Nats.

The OS events count for the OS series of course and also PC points.

Anyone still confused.

Maybe we need an update on the OS points that include Wgtn round 1 and Tauranga round 3 as Wairarapa Rnd 2 did not happen. Can we have an update on this???

I seriously think the allocation of points needs to be looked at or simplified. Just looking at some results one particular person in P2 scored 3 laps but because there were 2 boats in that class he scores more points than a person in C1. The person in C1 completed more laps, but he was the only entry in C1. I can make other comparisons as well but this particular one stood out. It is unfortunate that because certain people run in a certain class and that maybe because that is all they have got they are penalized when it comes to receiving Presidents cup points. It is obvious that if you want to chase president cup points you have to be in the class where most boats are represented. It's a hard one I know but I don't think it is quite right when you can get anomalies. Cheers Sorry

Take another look Brian. The PC points in offshore are allocated from overall placings not class placings. The use of offshore placings, combined with very few other events to gain points in a year makes the offshore series the dominant points scoring feature. In the past PC points were only gained from records and Nationals competition. This meant that the more boats you ran and did well with, the greater the chances of winning. Today it is about whether you can get to all the regattas and do reasonably well, however in the last couple of years the new 2-lap records have also created a 'point fest' in some respects. This should settle now that most classes have records set and breaking them is a greater challenge for those points. That being said, we are back to the offshore series dominating PC points. So perhaps there is a challenge for the committee to find a more balanced way of deriving a overall years champion, with a distinct separation from the offshore series. However the current NZ1, Bruce Clarke, well deserved it for his years efforts.

Hi Peter, To me it is very confusing. Sure Off Shore is allocated on overall placings, but what I am saying is that the more boats in a particular class the more points they get. That is why Bruce and all the others in P3 got more points. I was on the understanding that if there were say 3 boats in one particular class the overall leader of that class would of got 15 points plus the points he would of got for his place finish. That is the case in the latest points from the Off Shore round except it does not ring true for Dean Steve or myself. Where do I find a copy of the Presidents cup points allocation so I can peruse it to satisfy myself that I am on the right track. Cheers
