Good afternoon Steve

Thank you for putting in your request for course director for the NZMPBA speed runs at your venue.

I Trevor NZMPBA President accept your request and you have the full backing of the NZMPBA

Thank you
Trevor McClellan NZMPBA President

This is the email that went out to all members
To all

Firstly just a friendly reminder that NZMPBA subs are due.

The NZMPBA Committee are doing a survey on independent Nationals for the
North Island and the South Island we are very interested in finding out who has
suitable water to hold such an event the only thing the host club would have to
supply would be rescue boats and buoys and the water. The NZMPBA would do
the rest at no cost to the host club. This includes doing entry forms and doing
the heat and schedule sheets. If there is a financial surplus after running the
event this will go to the host club.

Things to do
Send email out to all members to state that there was no uptake on North and South Island nations.
Thank you for your consideration and due to no replys the committee on behalf of committee members we will have a rethink on ways to stimulate the association and come back with a reply.

Speed runs

Just a friendly reminder for members and clubs that wish to run speed runs to
follow the NZMPBA rules around speed runs. It is also the responsibility of the
organizer of the speed run event to get any records that have been officially
broken to the NZMPBA via email nzmpbacon@gmail.com.
It is not the responsibility of the NZMPBA to chase results.

Look forward to hearing back from you

Thank you
NZMPBA president Trevor McClellan

to me

HI Amy
I am not sure why I got this email but that's ok. I am not currently an NZMPBA member, I was for a number of years and was on the committee for three years, two of them as President, 2012-2015.
I am not an NZMPBA member now due to the way I was treated a few years back, it was quite frankly disgraceful and I saw no need to be in an organisation that treated people in such a way. I am not an isolated case, this behaviour has gone on for decades, even at the end of last year. I read the posted minutes.
I have been a member of the BOPMPBC for around 12 years, and am a passionate model boat builder and racer. I have held most of the positions on the BOPMPBC committee and am currently the Treasurer.
For some time I have thought to write to Trevor a few thoughts, so I will use this opportunity to do so. I think there are two things that need to be first addressed.

1) The word "control" used in the first article of the constitution. I note that Trev Terry raised this point last year, and he is correct. The NZMPBA has no right of "control" over model boating in New Zealand. They only have a limited "control" over the membership. This attitude of control has been the cause of a lot of the problems, especially around the way the committee and some who have been in the association for decades have behaved towards those who have come and gone as members. The membership has never been so low. I would suggest a word like 'facilitate' or similar is a better choice. It is a change to the constitution wording and will have to go through the correct process to change, but I think it would be a great step forward.

2) The NZMPBA committee needs to ask itself one very profound question. The question is;
What do we offer to model boaters in New Zealand?
With that, the question,;
What do we need to, or should we be offering to, model boaters in NZ?

Currently as a model boat racer, the NZMPBA offers me nothing, and this has been ongoing for some years now. There has not been a Nationals since 2015, and if you do not run offshore or go after records then there has been no reason to be an NZMPBA member. How do you convince me to be an NZMPBA member again?

In the BOP club last year only around a 1/4 of our members were also NZMPBA members, mostly because they wanted to race offshore events, and/or go after a few 2-lap or 100M records.

There are MANY model boaters in NZ that will not be a part of the NZMPBA, some because of past history, often because of offenses towards them, others see no benefit to it. How do you recapture these people? You have to offer something worthwhile.
In the last few years there has been little to no support of the clubs, in fact, there has even been a blatant derision of some. The BOP club even got a big F.U. from the President one year. There was dishonesty and cheating, which was condoned by the committee of the day. This caused a pile of bad feeling with many and reinforced the view that the NZMPBA was a waste of time. It is sad, not a good thing at all, and it will take a concerted effort to put such things right and rebuild, if there is a desire to do so. Genuine apologies are likely a start there, but the committee needs to figure it out and want to do something about it.

If you want to check my passion for model boating, just go and read through the last few issues of Propshaft, I was the last President to contribute reports, you can read what I wrote there as President. I have spent the last few years focusing on helping build our club, and its culture, and it is working pretty well, we have a great bunch of members and a number of new members this year. We do our best to help get newbies out on the water. This does take some time and effort, but I think it is worth it.
If you or Trevor would like to talk further, I would be happy to do so.
Regards
Peter Anderson (former #26)

In regards to the running of a Nationals, I feel you are way off track.
You should read and digest what's on the NZMPBA website.

to me

To NZMPBA Committee

I wish to apply for some financial assistance to assist with my competing on behalf of the NZMPBA at the up and coming Australian Model Powerboat Associations National Championships at Mulwala NSW.

In the past the NZMPBA has assisted with members that have traveled overseas to compete on behalf of our organization, most now senior members, and I feel it is now my turn to represent us overseas.

I believe my application falls into item 10 of the objects of our Constitution that I have listed below.

10. To assist with the organisation of tours for New Zealand model boat champions and others and enable them to compete in overseas model boat championships and world championships

I have attached a copy of my entry form to the AMPBA Nationals that I have already submitted and paid for so covering these costs would be appreciated.

Our organisation is quite solvent at present so finding funds should not be an issue.

I was invited to compete at the Queensland State champs in October last year so entered 5 events and came back home with 3 podiums , a first and 2 seconds and base on that result I feel confidant given the number of events I am entering that I will be bringing some hardware home.

I will of course be posting daily up dates on the NZMPBA Members Facebook page.

I trust you will give my application a favourable consideration
