Hi Grahame

I did think at the time we were debating the ‘one way request’ at our last meeting that I should make the following comment and then everyone agreed to deny the request and I let it pass thinking ok I don’t need to say it, or rather try and explain it.

Anyway I did think that running a speed run only from right to left would allow a considerable advantage, especially with hydros right on the limit (of records) as we used to be Rotongaio and I think you will remember the challenges we had and continue to. Approaching from the right the natural curve of the boat track allows a straight run and safe build-up of speed through the traps with a close eyeball view of handling etc that all helps. Contrast this advantage with the challenges of approaching from the left after having executed a right turn of 180 degrees the boat will be way further out and harder to see and definitely more difficult to line up for a straight run through the traps so probably covering a longer distance and therefore slower recorded speed. Or if the option is taken to turn more than 180 degrees and then some left turn to straighten up and run closer to the shore, a tricky manoeuvre that may result in a flip or a loss of speed making a slower return run. All things considered the more difficult pass direction.

Whatever way you look at it NOT having to do a left to right pass with an oval turning (right turn) boat will be an ADVANTAGE.

So it we allowed BOP this dispensation then clubs at other venues would want it too once they realise this advantage.

Have a think and we can talk at Mondays Comm meet some more.

I will be in Tauranga this weekend for a birthday, not to boat, I may pop down to the lake on Sunday to see the BOP champs for a short while.

BOP Letter
The Committee discussed the reply to their letter sent after last months committee meeting to the BOPMPBC and stand by the decisions made in full last month.
For speed runs; confirmed as outlined in Peter Colliers letter above.

It is also proven that wind can have a significant advantage with monos and deep vees particularly running into the wind versus with the wind

GENERAL BUSINESS

1 finalise calendar

Calendar Has been finalised for publication on the web site

Murray Smithson remit.
General feeling at the AGM was for 1 off regattas a fee should be charged to cover insurance and incidentals.
Committee had further discussion and made some progress to put to membership before making final recommendations to be submitted at next AGM.
Sticking point would be what fee is a reasonable fee?

Offshore rules
A review is pending on a tweak of the rules regarding things that are not being done properly or can be dispensed with at regattas.
