Hi folks.
A club update of the goings on down here. Had changes to our racing championships and the introduction of the Crackerboxs into a competition.
We have had a slow start to the season due to a number of reasons, some of us pursuing other interrsts, lake and weather conditions to name a couple.
We have revamped our club competitions. Have done away with the long offshore events which we had as being only for Deep Vees. This competition is now over the big 'M' course for 10 laps. Open to Deep Vees and cats. The criteria, they must be representative of the genuine offshore boats.
The open oval competition remains the same with all boats eligible and raced for 5 laps on the oval course.
The biggie is the introduction of the Crackerbox's into a strict criteria competition. Raced for 10 laps on the oval course. All boats must comply strictly with the NZMPBA specifications as per the rule book.
We are excited about this addition to the racing and have five crackerboxs in the club. This will give exciting competition with all basically the same boats. Comes down to preparation and driver ability.
Racing limited lap races will give all of us more racing. Rescuing will now be at the finish of the race. There will be more boats on the water and with quickfire races will make events exciting for the drivers and also for the spectators. Not having one or two boats going around and around. Boring to drive, boring to watch. We need more members and if we can show we are have an exciting / fun time, can only be good.
Two sorts of crackerboxs in the club at present. The Zippkit 'A' box which is a wooden self build kit. Wayne Thompson is also producing fibreglass hulls. the photos are of the Zippkits (orange boat) and one of Wayne's hulls (yellow / green. Driver Keith.)
A reminder. We will be hosting Round 4 of the Offshore Series here on Henley Lake on the 15th July 2018. The same format as previous years, 120 minutes of racing on the big 'M' Course. 2 x 1/2 hour heats and an hour final.
There you have it,
Wairarapa Model Power Boat Club.
