MATTERS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES;

1 > T Emerson report on transponder system
Transponders trials 29/10/17
After the racing at Masterton on Sunday I did some transponder trials with my boat for Braden.
• On the back straight the lap recording antenna also picks up the transponder signal. Braden has programmed a 15 second delay after the front straight indication for the purpose of ignoring the boat travelling on back straight.
• I ran at a range of distances from the shore along the front straight and the signal was picked up in all cases, even inside the course and unfortunately on the back straight as mentioned above.
• In the actual racing the test boat that was used had carbon fibre in its construction and unfortunately no data was gathered during the racing. Carbon fibre hulls effectively shield the transponder from emitting the signal to the antenna.
• Braden does not have a copy of our racing rules so has some areas of uncertainty that he is covering everything.
My comments
The 15 second delay will probably work most of the time, except in instances where a boat is just too slow or has to slow up for traffic, rescue boat, spins out, it is very rough etc.
Also if we are using this transponder system for oval racing where we have some pretty fast lap times, less than 15 secs, so a boats second crossing of the start/finish my not be legitimately recorded either. Maybe a means to vary the delay, but that could be problematic if the boats in an event have a wide range of lap times.
If carbon fibre boats are a problem then the moulding may have to include a small window (non carbon fibre, just fi-glass) on one side, to allow the signal. Or the transponder is mounted higher or externally.
Need to give Brayden more information on our racing events, not just the racing rules but also what happens in reality.
Regards Peter Collier VP.

Action – We feel they need more work to be able to be used efficiently without false recording of laps

2 > Consolidated Rules Update the pages in the rule book on the web site

Get original word doc off Bob then up date then place onto the web.

Action GH to do this.

General Business

FROM THE AGM

1 P. Collier – Asked the question whether Propshaft is still relevant or required.

Action
We need to find better ways of either getting information to Peter or set up links for readers to go to, to read information. Essentially Peter sets it up for people to link to information provided by others.

2 R. van Vlerken - Asked that the committee consider removing classes from offshore racing.

Committee‘s view is at present unless we get a majority of members wanting change before 31 December then we will retain the status Quo

3 Incorporation GH read up on the companies web site on incorporation and essentially we do this as a way to make sure our Association is run to the rules we agree on.

4 Question for Bob Gutsell are you doing the Off shore points collation for the rest of the year.
Yes he is!

5 2018 proposed Calendar Updated with information provided so far still need conformation from Hamilton MPBC and SUHA

6 Nationals venue and date required if any club interested!!!!

I note that R. van Vierken asked the question about removing classes from Off Shore racing. I also brought this up at the 2016 National General meeting in Taupo an got absolutely poo pooed over the idea. The committee are obviously making decisions without conferring with members. Remember one thing here, the members make the association and if a member puts something forward then act on it. Otherwise the membership is slowly going to disappear like it is now. The committees view was that unless they got a majority of members wanting change by 31 December, then there wouldn't be a change. The members have never been asked to put their thoughts forward, so on that scenario there will never be a change or discussion on the matter. Here is a golden opportunity to have a genuine discussion on something, so lets go ahead and do it. Cheers Sorry.
