🙂 Hi all. Help please I need help. I recently purchased 2 x modified 1080 carbs from Gizzmos and one of them works fine but the other one just dosen't want to work at all. I have done absolutely everything one would do in order to find and fix the problem but no the carb just won't work. I prime the carb and the motor fires up for about 3 seconds and then stops. As I said I have checked everything I have swapped parts changed the diaphram you name it I have done it but no this carb just won't work. Any ideas on what the possible problem could be. Note: I have tried several different carbs on the same motor which is on my test bench and they all work fine. Cheers Sorry. 🙁

Will they not take it back? They're usually pretty good about that sort of thing.

Hi sorry. For starters they don't make 1080 carbs I think you'll find it's a 1048 , first to id check the pulse hole , you may have the gasket around the wrong way ,but then you say you've run other carbs on the engine could even be a air leek from the intake manifold. When you pull the engine over with your thumb over the carb is it sucking fuel.
I'll see you in Taupo on Saturday
Cheers Trev

Hi my mistake yeah a typing error it's a 1048. First of all Bob, They have asked me a couple of questions, stupid ones at that as I have said to them that I had done absolutely everything possible to try and anylyse the problem and no they haven't come back to me as yet. Yes Trevor I have left nothing unturned with this carb I have today put two other motors on my test bench and run them with three different carbs (1) being a stock 929. (2) being a modified 257 and the last one the other 1048 I purchased at the same time. And yep the same old problem, I have one 1048 modified carb that is a lemon. Cheers Sorry

Hi sorry. The other thing to do is check the drillings in the carb ,there may be one blocked or not drilled right through.
If it's not that I would definitely send it back . Bring it to Taupo , I'll have a look
Cheers Trevor

Sorry I am a bit late in informing you all and thanks heaps for all the feedback, but I managed to fine the fault in the carb and all is good now. For your info the problem was the spring under the metering lever was not seated properly. It took a magnifying glass and a lot of patience but I do not give up and bingo all is good now. Cheers Sorry.
