I see in the entry forms for the North Island champs that they are going to have a stock class. I don't have a problem with this, but I do have a problem with a specific brand of motor being used. I am very new into RC Boating in fact only a year, although I do have a Zenoah I have elected to use RCMK's in my boats. They are cheaper than Zenoah's and I consider them a better motor. If the idea behind this is to attract new members with a limited budget then think again as standard Zenoah's are one of the more expensive motors. In human terms this would be classed as Racist.

Yeah mate, it's quite the dliemma, have a standard class so it's theoretically entry level and then restrict it to Zenoah's only to keep it even more level.

The irony is that the Stock classes are probably the most competitive class of them all. In T1 the boats are so evenly matched the starts are incredibly intimidating and racing very close. Hardly entry level.

If you're running Stock engines of any description you're better off to set your boat up as best you possibly can and run in the P2 events. You'll be gob smacked at how well you can do in those open classes, as fast boats crash and burn all around you and you plod across the finish line with a place under your belt.

Hi,
The zenoah is generally used in most if not al stock classes the world around as they are $30~$40 cheaper than the rcmk 254 , the zenoah 260 is around 3 hp out of the box while the rcmk 254 is about 4hp so they are not comparable as far as power in stock form goes therefore can not be introduced along side zenoah in stock classes.
gizmonotors are running clearannnce specials on all rcmk stock at the moment so don't use them for price comparisson, in my experience have having both brands the rcmk is always the more expensive engine.
Port timings are significantly higher on the rcmk out of the box also.
hope this answers your question .
happy boating.

Because I'm running unmodified Stock RCMK's I am disadvantaged as I have to run in open class with motors that have been modified. You are not up to date with pricing Damian as I now have 4 RCMK's brought from different outlets and they are considerably cheaper than Zenoahs

I own 3 rcmks and 4 zenoahs , like i say the rcmk is 4 hp and the zen is 3hp , if you were to run you rcmk in a stock class vs zens you would be the one with the unnfair advantage , you can perform som simple mods to your rcmks to increase performance significantly , i am more than happy to run you through it or there is an excellent step by step article on modelgasboats website, you can increase performance in the mod classes to bridge the gap but the idea of a stock class is to have a level playing. feild, this will not be acheived if we run rcmk and zenoahs trust me.

Not trying to be negative or disrespectful Brian so i hope my replies haven't come accross that way, just trying to help you understand the reasning behind the rules.
Like i said with a few basic modds to you're rcmks you will be right back on the pace, you don't need to spend big dollars to go fast.
Thanks
Damian

Brian, don't stress about the modded engines, I have a bunch of place cards that that prove you can still do very well in the open classes with a stock engine. We also see nitros regularly beating modded P2s at the Offshores as well. It's all about set-up, reliability and drievr ability.

As Damian said, there are enough differences between Zenoahs and RMCKs that running them together as a stock class wouldn't be a level playing field. The idea of Stock is to create a level playing field and keep the price down.

If you want to mod your RCMKs to be more competitive then talk to Damian, and/or download the MGB article, it's not rocket science.

I can see where you coming from so it looks like I have to modify my RCMK's to be competitive. Personally myself I would like to see P1 being up to 27cc stock standard, P2 up to 27cc modified and P3 etc as it is. At the moment is all we are doing is creating more races with less competitors in each race. What is the link to download for RCMK Mods.

Hi Brian,
Here is a link to a good step by step guide to modifying a zenoah ,http://www.modelgasboats.com/engine-porting/ the principles are the same for the rcmk, you dont need to turbo the crank as shown to have a fast engine, it is better to do it but it will run great all the same, also the squish clearance on the rcmk is not far away from where you want it to be so no need to machine the base of the cylinder.
Shoot me an email if you need any more info or help , fasthydros@gmail.com .
Cheers
