Interesting discussion thread Andrew. I can immediately see arguments for and against.
On one hand almost everybody has a stock engine they can take out of their thunder boats. (cos everybody has one of those right?)
It would be mean as racing, I still maintain that T1 Thunder boat is one of the most difficult classes to do well in. Uber competitive!- possibly somewhat intimidation for newbies?
On the other hand the nationals would get interesting to fit in another two maybe 4 or 6 events if you had stock P1, P2 and P3? From what I've seen for the last 2 years at the Nats it's really difficult to get people to stay longer than 3 days.
On the subject of the nats duration they used to be 5 days so there's not necessairly any reason to constrain it to a 3-4 day event. But there seems to be a reluctance for people to commit to 4 full days as it stands.
What would you suggest happens to the existing P1, P2 & P3 mono and cat classes? Would they become modified engines only? Or would those running stock engines get another shot for P1, P2 and P3 classes?
Are there similar rules we could adopyt from AMPBA, NAMBA or IMPBA?
