CORRESPONDENCE.
IN
* From Wayne Mowbray via Murray Smithson. Proposed Cracker box rule updates

*From Brian Hely via web site response to Trevor McClellan letter
In response to Trevor's letter yes I agree on the modified hot motors, I have always said they are ruining the hobby as they just brush the stock powered boats aside and then members that can't compete get frustrated & devastated and give up. Yes in fairness to that we do have T1 Thunder boats but they are the only pacific class that run stock motors. I have said for many years that we have too many classes. As far as petrol powered classes go we should have P1 stock up to 27cc Zenoah powered only. P2 Stock up to 27cc any brand of motor and then we go straight to open class up to 72cc which will include any motor standard or modified. That means as far as petrol power goes you have straight away cut the classes down to three. At the moment on club days apart from P1 Thunder boats it is open slather for all other classes of boats i.e. mono, tunnel & Hydro and the emphasis seems to be on winning rather than having fun. I know it is impossible to run separate classes on club days as you don't have time, but I think the Wairarapa club are probably part way there with their cracker boxes. Just imagine a few cracker boxes running around with a stock P1 Zenoah in it. Food for thought. Cheers Sorry

*From Trevor McClellan (Via Phone) Insurance concerns when boating on our own outside of sanctioned club days and regattas

Correspondence out
Nil

Correspondence Discussion
1. Wayne Mowbrays proposed Changes to Crackerbox rules, to be sent to membership by treasurer for comment. Committees recommendation is the only change would be to remove engine specifications as written in proposed rules and replace with all engines must comply with Stock Engine rules as specified elsewhere in NZMPBA rulebook.
2. Brian Hely’s letter. Mostly has been covered by comments on the NZMPBA web site, and is clarified in the revised rule book. ( coming soon). . It is not the NZMPBA’s responsibility to run stock events, we have done our bit to put rules in place for the stock classes. Therefore it is clubs responsibility to promote and run those classes. Interesting no one appears to have claimed a record, speed or oval for any of these classes.
3. Trevor McClellan question regarding Insurance when boating alone to be looked at by Committee with a decision by next meeting. The committee does recommend one should not be boating alone for Health and Safety reasons anyway!!!

GENERAL BUSINESS
Wairarapa MBC has indicated they will be hosting their October 18th Offshore regatta
AGM
Is looming upon us.
Time to think about remits to be considered at the AGM.
Constitutional changes only can be considered at the AGM.
Notification of time and venue to be sent to Membership 28 days prior.

MINUTES OF THIS COMMITTEE MEETING OF 06/07/2020 READ AND ACCEPTED.
Moved: Trev Terry

Seconded Murray Smithson

Just wondering how you set or claim a record for a class/es that do not actually exist or can have records applied to?
Reference to the records available list in the rule book, the only 'stock' engine class there is T1.Stock crackerbox is not on that list. Neither can you set a record for a mono or tunnel with a stock engine.
For clarity, stock refers the T1 engine rule.

Ok so I correct myself, stock crackerbox is on that list, I missed it jammed in the middle there.

So the above statement from the minutes that no one has claimed a record for stock classes is, well...somewhat disingenuous.

T1, one of only two stock engine classes has a full set of records in both speed and oval, and is possibly one of the most challenged lot of records in the last 2 or 3 years. As far as crackerbox goes, well there are a few in Masterton, and unless any one of them travels to have a go at the record it will likely remain empty.
There is still no place for a record with a mono (other than crackerbox obviously) or a tunnel with a stock motor.

The real issue that continues unabated is the number of classes overall in such a small boating community. Many are there simply for records, and there ever being any number for a racing class is remote at best.

Perhaps there should be a rationalisation of classes for racing. That way there may be more numbers for regattas.
There is little difference in speed and 2-lap times between P2 and P3 engines, in race water either can win and there is no real advantage in the bigger engines in reality.
rationalisng petrol classes for regatta racing to 'stock' (which was the most popular at the 2015 Nats) and having open up to 35cc (currently P3) may be a way to encourage better numbers for oval racing. This can be applied to hydro, mono and tunnel.
For electric, P (4s) and Q (6s) hydro and offshore, and open electric (up to 12s or 'T') any hull type is sufficient to build numbers. Possibly 1/8 scale as there are 5 currently being built in the BOP club.
Throw in a few nitros and you would have a Nationals with something for everyone easily.

Overall the focus, as others have said, needs to be on the on water boating and getting people to club days. I have always said that the clubs are the grass roots of this hobby and need supporting from a national level. This key thing has been pushed aside the last few years in the pursuit of winning, winning, winning.
Why have the membership numbers dropped down in the last ten years, because of this one thing.
