It took place last weekend Feb 26 27.

It is a 2 by half day regatta starting mid day Saturday and then Sunday morning finishing around 12 noon.
This format allows away travellers to get there and home again without having to take a day off work.

Saturday had 4 enter although 6 turned up. The water was very testing with a good sea breeze blowing up the ditch. Made for some close competitive racing and even in the rough a couple found out in the first heat you can still break out ie. exceed your target time and thus sustain severe point penalties. There would have been 3 break out however one did a barrel roll and 360 flat spin on the last lap which saved his bacon by a mere .17 of a second.
After the rooster tails had settled Brendon Kirk from Canterbury took the honours from Matt Gay and Gav Jamieson from the local club.

Sunday was a whole new ball game. 6 boaters and hot laps on flat water however no sooner they were done then the breeze came up again.

Several rehandicapped themselves to compensate for the rough but were still often 20secs off target
Gav managed to take out the spoils from Matt again with Duncan Atkinson from Nelson 3rd.

Over all for the weekend Matt won the round from Gav and Brendon 3rd.

We Gained a new member in Phil Turner and witnessed some new hardware being tested for the up coming nationals.

Roll on Round 2 in Ashburton in May.
