John Belworthy transponder system
Hi Nitro.
Have just talked with Bayden.
His system is quitter smart but built for use on large vessels.
I have attached the link for pricing – jeez
The size of the transponder is 46 diam x 113mm at 224grms.
Try fitting that to any glow boat!

Personally at this stage I think it’s a great system but over the top for us.
Costs are prohibitive for our Association at present.

Hi Peter, Nitro.

Another item I have found today – Electric rules.
We now have a table of classes that we run in electric:
Mono, Hydro, Tunnel and Deepvee.
Directly below that table we have N2 Sport Hydro where it specifically mentions no riggers.
P sport hydro has the same wording.
My question is, where do the 2 types of hydros run?

Scrutineering of boats took a big chunk of time.
Cark Hansen mentioned to Kerry that he gave up motor racing because of the hassles
With scrutineering. He would bring his car to a race meet (knowing it was mechanically
Sound and compliant) and then have to stand around wasting time will it was scrutineered.

I feel we could go along this line also. Boats are checked at club days and would then
be compliant for race days. Therefore not requiring to be scrutineered. Petrol boats with
kill switches should be activated each time they are returned to shore at club days.
These kill switches are mandatory now and must be in working condition at all times.

The other side of this is the responsibility is on the owner. At our regatta either Kerry or
Terry signed the scrutineering form. This means that they would be liable if something
happened, not the owner.

Hi John and Nitro

I agree with simplifying scrutineering and have an idea.

For the last few years I have got our entrants to scrutineer their own boat and record same on a master sheet. Always felt a little guilty I was copping out a bit, but with what you say John I now believe I have been on the right track.

Now I would like to propose advancing the idea further.

Include with the entry form a scrutineer sheet for each entrant.

The entrant scrutineers their boat(s) either at home or when they arrive at the venue, perhaps the final items being’ range check’ and ‘motor kill’ at the venue.

At registration they present the completed and signed form and the CD checks and counter signs as seen, it then goes into the regatta records.

As an exception. If an entrant is new to it all they can request a nominated official scrutineer for them and explains what and why etc, thus educating the novice.

Once registration is complete for that entrant they may take advantage of ‘open water’ to tune up provided it is after 9 am and the course set up has been completed and ok’d by the course marshall and CD.

Drivers briefing can be held when the water is closed and just before racing begins.

This approach could save a bit of time and get racing started sooner as blokes will know they can get on the water quicker and sort their boats. If they get organised and do this themselves.

As for liability the boat owner/driver is the principle signer so is liable, the counter-signer only signs as sighting the form has been correctly filled in, presented and filed in the regatta records.

I think I might try this at our next regatta on 13th May to see how it works.

No Outriggers, same goes for Q hydro, guess they can run in ‘open class’.

We can discuss Monday night.

Discussion the general feeling of the committee is that boat checking should be done at club level but if a driver wants his boat checked at a regatta then there should be an assigned scrutineer available to check it.

Peter Collier has created an individual competitor self scrutineering sheet that can be made available off the web site with the entry form.
This concept will be trialled at the next Wellington club Offshore and reported back to the committee.

Wayne Mowbray:- Crackerbox racing
Morning nitro
Have five of these up here now.
This is the Zipp kit A box. Wayne Thompson is now making fibreglass hulls.
The zippkit is shorter than the NZMPBA rules but complies with the North American Associations. We altered the rules to allow in the club.
Running on the oval course, 10 laps.
We have done away with the long offshore races and now run all of our club races over either 5 or 10 laps. Offshore now 10 laps on the big 'M' course. No longer rescuing during events which make things easier.
Championships are now, 5 lap open oval, 10 laps offshore , 10 laps crackerbox's. Quick fire events, more varied races and more racing for all classes of boats. A better spectator experience. Not watching one boat going around and around.

Committee agrees these rules need to be looked at given both American Associations have Crackerbox rules that allow shorter hulls like the Zippkits Abox and Dumas Crackerbox which are cheap kits readily available

GENERAL BUSINESS

1. RULE BOOK is a shambles and needs sorting especially downloads on web site

Peter has successfully downloaded off web site so Nitro can up date.

DISCUSSION
Peter and Nitro will have the web site rule book cleaned up by next committee meeting.

3. REMINDER
ALL PETROL BOATS MUST HAVE IGNITION DISABLING DEVICES
INSTALLED AND WORKING FROM 1 JANUARY 2018 TO COMPETE AT NZMPBA SANCTIONED REGATTAS AS PER RULE BOOK. (General rules section)

IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE COMMITTEE’S ATTENTION THAT A COMPETITOR AT THE WELLINGTON OFFSHORE WHO HAD KILL SWITCH ISSUES , DISCONNECTED HIS IGNITION KILL SWITCH IN ORDER THAT HE COULD CONTINUE RACING.
THIS WAS NOT MADE KNOWN TO THE RACE OFFICIALS UNTIL AFTER THE EVENT.

As this is a health and safety issue and breaking the NZMPBA rules It is the committee’s unanimous decision that in future should any competitor be found guilty of doing this they will lose all points gained at that regatta and as well be stood down for the following two sanctioned regattas on the NZMPBA Calendar for that year.

Nationals venue and date required for 2019 if any club interested!
We need feedback from the general membership whether in fact they want any nationals in the future

Offshore rules
A review is pending on a tweak of the rules regarding things that are not being done properly or can be dispensed with at regattas.
