Electric Rules
G. Haines presents paper on proposed Electric Classes
Action –
1.
GH Remove Voltage References

Ok so what is being proposed here? The rules have been written on battery voltages for the following reasons;

1)To stop an unfair advantage of HV (high voltage cells) being used at higher voltages. A bit like not allowing ceramic pistons in P1 motors.

2)So that our rules/practice is in line with what is done in AMPBA, NAMPBA and IMPBA.

3)Safety. It could be too easy for someone who lacks understanding of lipo cell technology to overcharge cells and create nasty fires.

Why is there an inherent need to have to keep changing the rules? To what purpose and reason? Why would you not consult with the one person that knows this stuff more than any?

Sorry

Good one Peter. I think you have made a very valid point here. Why do the present rules need to be changed, is it so it suits one particular individual. I tried to change a simple rule on a P1 motor by allowing a belt starter and it got thrown out, even though it made absolutely no difference to the performance of the engine.

OK Guys
Peter, the proposed rules will be published for consultation when the committee are happy with them. You'll have plenty of opportunity to provide feedback. Contrary to your belief, there are others who have equally valid opinion about the future of Electric racing. Remember that despite your valiant efforts, electric racing still isn't growing, the intent of this proposal is to have another go at inspiring the class to grow.

Brian, You know very well, that you always could run a P1 engine with a starter belt, as long as the recoil starter was left in place. Your proposal was to allow the P1 boat to be run without the recoil starter in place. The committee ruled that recoil starters must stay in place. Simple either way you look at it. Please stick to the topic of discussion of the February minutes.

Yeah righto Bob. However I, like others, have little faith that we will actually be listened to. To be fair it is not just electric that is not growing (although there is a lot of anti attitude towards it, despite the efforts I have tried to make), oval racing has taken a big hit due to offshore/endurance and the lack of clubs and overall membership, and like I have said for some time now, it needs building at grass roots level. The lack of promotion of model boating by the NZMPBA, the committee being the driving force. If you guys don't support this by leading from the front, encouraging ALL areas then how can it get any bigger and better. So far there has been no vision from the committee for the last year and a half, so how about creating a vision/direction forward instead of twiddling with things that don't need changing and provide some real leadership before more members become disenfranchised and walk away from boating like so many have in the past. Get rid of the bad attitudes that seem to prevail, stop being offended when members challenge the lack of direction etc. and move things forward in positive ways.

Hi Peter, I don't normally wade it to debates like this but feel that I would like to put in my 2 cents worth. But firstly I would like to make the point that these are my opinions and not those of the NZMPBA committee or any club I am associated with. One of the main reasons that I became a committee member this year was to find out why so many rule changes had been made over the last few years and that if any future changes were to be made that I considered unnecessary I would attempt to block them.Regarding the present program you are quite right there isn't enough flat water racing but at an impromptu meeting at Masterton the competitors there made it very clear that this is what they wanted to do. You're correct again the hobby needs promoting at club level so lets look at the club scene at the moment Tauranga is doing a great job but a long way away from the bottom half of the North Island. Masterton, the membership is mainly keen on offshore with a little sprint racing on club days.Wellington, mainly offshore with run what you brung on club days and electric during daylight savings Blenheim, speed runs and flat water racing for a couple of events but the downside is that piece of water to get to it.Hamilton, I don't know about so can't comment. So as you can see each club has to support what their membership wants. It makes it very difficult to lead from the front in this situation.I could go on but don't want to carry this any further than necessary but will finish by noting you mentioned bad attitudes but you forgot sarcasm which by your own admission in a previous post you can be guilty of if you could eliminate
that you would get a far better response to any queries you may have. Regards Murray Smithson

Thanks for your comments Murray.I am not trying to be sarcastic, but am likely guilty of something like that at times in the past. Better communication between the committee and members would help ease frustration at times. That is something that was identified 2-3 years ago and we began to improve on then. Openness and transparency are also a vital part of leading any organisation as I am sure you are aware. It is important I believe that this needs to be not only seen but perceived so that members know they are being represented and not belittled, something which I have personally been made to feel that way by the actions of some. I look forward to better things.
Peter.

Thanks for the reply and I will certainly be bringing up your concerns and thoughts at the next meeting. In most every club I have been involved with to get a hard opinionated bunch of people who all want similar results but travel different paths to agree is very difficult but it can be done with respect and discretion by all the parties concerned lets hope we can head that way and actually enjoy what the hobby/sport has to offer. Regards Murray
