Post Wairarapa MPBC Invitational meeting

As we have Henley Lake booked for our use over Labour Weekend 2014, our club has decided to run two mini regattas, one on the Saturday and one on the Sunday of Labour Weekend.

These are separate to our club championships which we compete for during the year, so it was decided to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to come to the Wairarapa for either one or both days of racing.

Gate open at 9pm, set up, drivers brief etc, and after all chores completed racing to start at 10 am and going through to 3 pm

There will be 4 types of events combining off shore and open oval heat racing.

2 x 10 minute and 1 x 30 minute 'M' Course Offshore event, open to all styles of boats complying with Offshore rules, must represent offshore style boats, drivers in open cockpits, painted windscreens on cowlings, exhaust exiting through transom etc.

10 x lap 'M' course cat sprints, number of heats depending on time available

5 x lap Open Oval Sprint races, once again number of heats dependant on entry's and time available

20 minute Open Oval Marathon.

This should give everyone a good opportunity to get good time on the water. If time allows extra heats could be added or if enough interest extra events added.

The whole concept is to have a good time and enjoy the racing

Certificates will be awarded to all place getters.

For more info please give us a call.

The North Island Champs as far as I know have always been run over Labour weekend, why is the Waiarapa Club trying to under mine a national event and run an event on their home course. They would of known that the Nth Island Champs were being held in Tauranga and should be supporting a National event rather than compete against it. That's my pennies worth. Cheers

Not cool! WMPBC declined to hold the NI Champs, and now....! No PC points and it is not a sanctioned event, so no insurance coverage either.

I would like to know if the 3 people above are going to the Nats ??? . I do support the Nats and hope every boater enjoys the event. Our club is having a normal race day but some members will be away so we wont be racing for points. so if any boater who is not and I repeat NOT attending the Nats they are more than welcome to spend the day with us. THIS is not UNDERMINING the Nats

Well I'll be buggered you say you support the Nats and yet you are not going and instead you are running an event which really when you break it down is in competition with the Nats. You either support them and go or you stay at home and not do anything, but no you are organizing another event. Shame on you. And in answer to your question I am not attending the Nth Island Champs due to personal reasons. Cheers.

I also will be there, not just boating but involved in running the day. The Wairarapa club does need to be aware that only sanctioned events are covered by the NZMPBA insurance policy. All sanctioned events are those that are listed on the calender. The committee has done a bit of work to ensure that regular boating activities are covered as the there was a change of insurer a couple of years back. The only sanctioned event this weekend is the NI champs in Tauranga. Others boating do so at their own risk.
I would ask please that considering the death of a white swan a couple of weeks ago that the Wairarapa club excercise some restraint and care in their boating activities, it is not worth losing the use of lake Henley for model boating.

Really Brian, since when was it that if the NZMPBA hold an event no club in NZ can hold their club day on the same weekend? All I got from WayneM Post was they had the lake booked and have decided to make their club day a 2 dayer. What's the difference between a club day and a sanctioned event? calling it a regatta and saying certificates will be given?

I recon chill out and be realistic, this post was made 8 days before the NI starts. After NI entry's have closed. Im sure their intention was not to undermine the NI event. Anyone going to the Wairarapa club day wasn't going to the NI anyway.

Im very surprised about some of the comments some people have made on this thread.
