🙂 I am after some info regarding piston wear on RCMK RZ 254's. I have been told by several fellow boaters that the pistons on the RZ 254's wears out very quickly. Can anybody tell me that is if I put a K30RZ upgrade kit on my 254's does that overcome the problem. Cheers 😀

Hi Brian,
Yes the k30rz would definately give you better piston support and reduced piston wear as the transfers are partially sleeved giving a bigger suface area for the piston to load against , you will need to replace the crank also to retain stock timings and squish as the k30 has a plus 1mm stroker crank as standard.
The k30 will have a bunch more talk too 😉
Hope this helps.

What are the port timings for the exhaust, transfers & inlet port on the k30z?
Also ignition advance degree setting-
Standard deck clearance?

Hi Damian
I was on the understanding from RCMK in Korea that I could put the K30 Kit straight on and would not have to change the crank. And Dave I wouldn't have a clue what the port timings are. I just buy motors and run them. I have only come across this problem because I am running twin rear exhaust motors in my new Off Shore. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers Sorry.

I will guess you put together the twin engined boat to do what with it? Must be quite a project to take on- so I will assume you can turn a spanner etc etc & can take both those motors apart to see for yourself piston wear & not rely on rumor/model forums from round the world for info?
It's not real expensive to purchase & set up a degree wheel & lean how to check/duplicate port timings-
FYI: motors (port timings) can & do vary part to part- without knowing what the motors have in that area, how can expect to get similar running motors in the boat? That's assuming you try to race the boat...
A bit of knowledge will save a lot on the long run-
Dave

Hi Dave
I have built a new Off Shore boat and put twin RZ 254's in it. The reason I went for rear exhaust motors was the ease of fitting them. The boat although in its infancy is performing above expectations and I am over the moon with it. For your info I have gone ahead and bought two K30 upgrade kits which from what I have been told will cure the piston wear problem. So time will tell. Cheers Sorry.

Hi Brian , the k30 comes with a plus 1mm crank , the cylinders will fit no problem, but you may need to fit a thinner base gasket to get the squish clearance right, could be ok ?

Thanks for that Damian. I could easily buy a couple of cranks. The trouble will be if I get to much grunt I won't have the props, I will then have to buy some larger ones.
