😡 I went into down load the entry form for the Wellington off Shore only to find that they have changed the format or at least I think they have as I have never been to a Wellington off Shore before. I was on the understanding that Off Shores are normally two 20 min races and one 1 hour race. But the Wellington event is 3 10 min races and 1 20min race. How disappointed I was when I saw that. I know they are having a couple of Cat Scrap races as well but this is an Off Shore Event, and to me having short races is achieving nothing really as no one would need to pit and all the interest is taken away. Hence it made my decision not to enter easy although I was looking forward to it. Travelling 7 hours each way there and back plus a nights accommodation for 50 mins racing isn't for me. I would like fellow boaters thoughts on this as there are fellow boaters who only do Off Shore so I would say I am right in my thinking that they won't travel for 50 mins racing either. Cheers 🙁

That's the tried and true format for Wellywood offshores mate, been like that for almost 30 years. It's only the northern rounds that do the 100 minute format.(that's why we used the points system to standardise the results) Still a very fun days racing with a great crew, and the Saturday evening dinner is not to be missed either. Now you mention it, that's the only time I've ever thought of it as 7 hours driving for 50 minutes racing.

It's not easy racing either, the part of the river where they run it, runs almost north to south, and more often than not, they have a stonking southerly blowing into the current. The course becomes very challenging driving into and with standing waves, the only places you can put any speed on if driving across the course sideways to the wind which has its own complexities.

It's only 50 minutes but when you're done, you're really DONE!

It's a great event and it's how they roll.

Hi Brian], I know it seems a long way to travel for a short amount of race time but if you are keen on the whole offshore thing you will be disappointed buy not going to this race as it makes what the offshore series is all about different water etc.
I live in Taupo and thought the same thing but trust me it's a great day ,with great people .

Hi fellow boaters thanks for all the feedback. It's not that I am that really disappointed about the format it's more about myself and on going health issues that make it extremely difficult me at this present point and time to travel that far. I must admit Bruce rang me today and tried his hardest to talk me into going, but sitting in a vehicle for that length of time is not what I need at this point and time. Rest assured I will be there when the body comes right. Hope you all have an enjoyable day. Cheers.
