Hello everyone
I haven't been into boats for very long (2009).
I was one of those people who went into this with great aspirations and expectations. I was going to build this huge boat (72") and build all kinds of fancy equipment to bolt onto it.
Let me tell you now, listen to those in the club/s that have been around the block. I am fortunate to belong to the WMPBC and we have a good number of enthusiastic model power boaters who have been boating for many years, and have also represented NZ.
As a result of my ability to take the hint, I ended up building a boat (54") that realistically suited my ability (none), I had a blast building the boat and getting advice from other members. And whilst my first ever boat didn't perform as I would have wished, I am forever thankful of the advice that was freely given in an effort to get me on the water.
I am now a member of NZMPBA and am starting to realize just how much fun model power boating is.
I am now in the process of building a new boat so that I can run in all the NZMPBA offshore rounds for the 2012 season. And yes I am still really green but I know that there are going to be those I am going to meet in the coming years that will forge lasting friendships and an enduring camaraderie.
It doesn't matter if you have a simple little electric boat you got from the warehouse, or a custom built boat for competitive racing, the result will be the same. Without a doubt, some of the best fun you can have with your pants on.
So in closing I look forward to meeting all my fellow boaters in the coming years. And I invite you all to go to our local club meetings and introduce yourself. Put your boat in the water and have some fun with the other members.
See you on the water.
