Great day in Ashburton today with 8 guys racing hydro's, cats and mono's. Some great driving and close racing. Brendon dominated the hydro's with his T1 baker boat completing all heats. Matt with his T1 thunderboat came in second after having a bit of trouble in a couple of heats and Todd came in a close third with his whiplash which was well done for its first time on the water.
We then got into the Mono/Cat racing and there was some great racing and excellent driving. Evan Vallender in his first event started with a few jitters but raced really well in his fourth heat leading until he hit bouy 1 and that let Brendon through for first place. Regan had his cat flying untill he stopped at bouy 4 and remebered he forgot to put any flotation in and after a half an hour looking for it we continued with the racing and would go back to look for it at the end of the day. Unfortunatly Murray was out after a small breakage and helped out with throwing boats in and race directing. Brendons R42 was flying with his big bore and Andrew was close behind with his R42 26. Matt was also going well untill he had engine problems.
So for the first three places were up for grabs in the last heat with Andrew, Brendon, Todd and Glen all looking to take out the heat. Andrew stalled on the line to take him out and Brendon flew through to take the heat. Glen was sure he wasnt going to let his son beat him and in the last lap Evan came to greaf on the back straight.
At the end of the day Brendon took out the Cat/Mono racing with 1450 points followed by Todd with 1325 points and Andrew in third with 1100 points.
With both talleys joind for the winner of the meet Brendon took this out comfortably with Todd in second and Matt in thrird.
Thanks to all that helped and was a great day with awesome weather. Thanks to Brendon for the use of the boat and helping run some of the races and Murray who also helped run a few of the races.
By the way after over a hour in the mearky water i found Regans boat much to his delight as he had spent a consideralbe amount of time and money on his great running cat.
Look forward to next year where it looks like the guys will have more classes to race.
