Hi,

Just taken delivery of a 9601 kit from ML Boatworks.

Looking forward to making a start this week.

Any tips for a newbie?

Cheers

Yep build a jig and build the whole thing on it, you won't go wrong.

Also check the alignment of everything on my one he cut it exactly how Roger Newton had drawn it and even included his cockups on the sponson. I believe he's tidied them up quite abit now.

What boat are you building?

Where are you based Fraser? There's a guy in Auckalnd, Merv Sowden who's built two of those hulls......or very similar. 2010 Peters & May and the 2011 Spirit of Qatar.

Will you be building yours as electric or Nitro?

You live where..? If you can, get in contact with the Wellington club (guys) & seek advice on the build of your boat-
you will need LOTS of help.... lots of FU's in the kit as I received it, materials not right for a specific build area...etcetcetc.
Too bad- 1/8 scale class is a perfect racing venue.
Get lots of help, you will need it to finish the boat as supplied in the kit-

Hi,

What glue do you recommend for initial setup on a jig for balsa framing ?

Thanks

Balsa Framing? The framing in the kit should all be 1/16th and 1/8 ply, there shouldn't be any balsa at all, it's just not durable enough. Just do a trial fit dry then glue everything with epiglue or west systems epoxy.

Make sure you put some waxed grease proof paper on your jig before gluing for obvious reasons 🙂

The SUHA website has been down for a while, Merv says he's been working on getting it back up and running again. In the meantime SUHA has a facebook page, which is fairly sueful for seeing who's who and what they're workknig on. You'll get lots of help for your project from there as well.

Thanks
